Shine 404 Page

Theme: Shine · Section type: 404 page section

The 404 section is what customers see when they open a link that doesn't exist in your store. It shows a short message, a search box, and buttons back to your store, with an optional image beside the text, so customers can find their way instead of leaving.

Note: This section is part of the 404 template. You can't remove it, but you can hide it and add other sections around it. The section holds one Search block and one Button block. You can add Subheading, Heading, and Description blocks as needed.

What you can do

  • Write the message
  • Add search and buttons
  • Add an image beside the text
  • See what customers see
  • Look up every setting in "Settings reference"
  • Fix common problems

Open the 404 page in the theme editor

  1. In the theme editor, open the template selector at the top of the page.
  2. Click Others > 404 page.
  3. In the left sidebar, click 404.

The template comes with a Subheading, Heading, Description, Search, and Button block.

Write the message

  1. Click the Subheading block and enter the Text, for example "404 — Page not found".
  2. Click the Heading block, enter the Text, and choose a Heading size: Headline, H1, H2, or H3.
  3. Click the Description block and enter the Text.
  4. Drag the blocks to change their order.
  5. Click Save.

Tip: The default description says "Please contact us at Shine". Replace "Shine" with your store name, or add a link to your contact page.

Add search and buttons

  1. Under 404, click Add block > Search to add a search box. The block has no settings.
  2. Click Add block > Button.
  3. Enter a Home page button label and a Catalogue button label. Leave a label empty to hide that button.
  4. Click Save.

Add an image beside the text

  1. Click 404.
  2. Under Image, select an Image.
  3. Under Large screen, choose a Section ordering: Text first (text on the left) or Image first (image on the left).
  4. Under Mobile screen, choose a Section ordering: Text first (text above the image) or Image first (image above the text).
  5. Click Save.

What customers see

  • Message: the subheading, heading, and description. Without an image, the text is centered. With an image, the text sits beside the image on large screens.
  • Search box: customers type a search term and press Enter or the search icon to open the search results page.
  • Buttons: the home page button opens your homepage. The catalogue button opens the page with all your products.
  • Phones and tablets: the text and image stack, in the order you chose under Mobile screen.

I can't find the Paragraph block.
It's now called Description.

The image and text are in the wrong order on phones.
Phones use their own setting. Change Section ordering under Mobile screen.
